To steal a phrase from a popular TV show - what an "amazing race." I can't believe it's actually over (or just beginning!). But I find it necessary to take the time to give thanks to those who made my school board election possible.
First and foremost, the voters - casting a vote for me shows that you trust me with your children. You have entrusted me to help develop and maintain an exemplary school district for our students and I am dedicated to creating successful life-long learners.
Another special thanks to those who hosted the meet-n-greet coffees, to those who wrote letters of support to the Forest Hills Journal, to those who put out yard signs, and to those who informally campaigned for me throughout the district. I believe that it was this grass roots effort that spread my message.
Next, I wouldn't have gotten through the campaign on my own without the dedication, support and hard work of my campaign staff and advisors, my husband and my family.
Finally, I'm honored to be serving this community alongside Julie Bissinger and Forest Heis. I intend to learn a lot from both of them.
Thank you again. I promise to work hard for the parents, students, teachers and taxpayers of our district; to live up to the faith you've placed in me and to show you that you have made the right decision in putting a teacher on the Forest Hills School Board.
My Top 3 priorities:
- Advance technology
- Ensure money is spent wisely
- Implement a district-wide dress code
How I plan to address these priorities:
- Provide the necessary training and tools for teachers so they are more comfortable with technology and can use it more extensively in the classroom.
- Work with other school board members, parents, the superintendent, and Treasurer to make sure that the district is making the best financial decisions.
- Continue surveying parents, faculty, and students to find a uniform dress code that will enable students to focus on learning, rather than what they are wearing.
As a member of the Forest Hills School Board I will increase parent involvement in the following ways:
- Keep each school’s website current so parents can find up-to-date information (such as upcoming meetings and extracurricular opportunities for students).
- Encourage principals to post weekly or bi-weekly letters online or send home, informing parents of what is happening around the school and what they can expect in the week(s) to come.
- Provide technology classes for parents so they can learn more about EDLINE, e-mailing teachers/administrators, and searching their children’s’ school websites for information.
- Recommend PTA involvement.
- Promote parent volunteering in schools (as a front door greeter, photocopier, field trip chaperone, etc.).
